Our week starts with the Moon in Aquarius which is a sign of innovation and change. The Moon speaks to us our our feelings and with Aquarius it can be about the collective, and unexpected things as this sign’s ruler is Uranus. Aquarius can help us be a bit more detached and less reactive to drama and hopefully looking at the big picture.

At the beginning of the week, Fortitude, the Goddess Durga the Goddess of Manifestation key card 8 in the Major Arcana traditionally Strength comes out from the Beautiful Creatures Tarot. It’s a reminder to start our week with fortitude and strength. In the dictionary fortitude is mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation courageously. The Hindu goddess Durga is pictured with her Tiger. She is our warrior and reminds us we have the strength to overcome any of our fears or the unknown. We see the six hands of Durga holding the pink lotuses and the Sudarshan Chakra, the conch shell atop her baton symbolizing the cosmic sound of the OM vibration which removes negative energy and restores peace along with the trident, and sword to cut or break away from danger or fear. 

The Tiger sitting next to her offers us her medicine of passion, sensuality, willpower, courage and being the creator of our life and everything in it. Fear can be useful when we are in physical danger but it’s not so useful in our day to day activities. Fears, self-doubt, and worry keep us stuck and unable to move forward and keep us in scarcity and lack consciousness They also can cause us to be unwell by negative beliefs and thoughts that affect our mind, body, and soul. Fear costs us from moving forward. One of the ways to move beyond fear is by quieting our mind through Meditation. It’s is a simple but oh so power tool to help us more through fear, reduce our stress and anxiety and improve our health. Our Tiger along with Durga helps us gain strength to over come our fears this week and remind us of one of our superpowers, meditation and our mind to choose courage and fortitude over fear so that we can be of service in our life.

This week I’m reading with the whimsical and magical Halloween Tarot by By Karin Lee,  Art by Kipling West (The Halloween Tarot: published and used with the permission of U.S. Games Systems. c. 1996. All right reserved https://www.usgamesinc.com/Halloween-Tarot/)  As the leaves swirl around us and the wind blows, this time of year there is anticipation for the magic of the season!   It may sound strange, but I know many of you will understand, Halloween and All Souls Day  is one of my favorite times of the year!   It’s a time when the veil is thin and we can slip between the worlds - there’s magic and mystery.  So this is a perfect deck to read with this month!  The images in this deck are playful but don’t be tricked, this deck can give you an amazing reading. I have the standard size deck but now there is a smaller one available in a tin!  The suits in the Halloween Tarot are represented by Ghosts for Cups, Imps for Wands, Bats for Swords, and Pumpkins for Pentacles.  And our bonus is there is a black cat that wanders about the deck!  “When black cats prowl and pumpkins gleam, May luck be yours on Halloween.” So let’s see who we will meet along the way in our reading.  And like our black cat, we can be the observer to see what stands out for us in each card and also come along for the ride!

I am reading this week with the beautiful Mother Peace Tarot by Karen Vogel and Vicki Noble published and used with the permission of U.S. Games Systems. c. 2012-2016. All rights reserved. This is one of my first round decks that I started reading with back in the early 80s so it’s one of my favorite children and you can see the book has been read, travelled with me and loved. I love the art, its multiculturalism and it speaks to me of healing ourselves and everyone on our beautiful planet. I use it for my meditations and readings with others and found a perfectly crafted round Sweetgrass basket in South Carolina for its home. It fits beautifully with the energy of this deck. With round decks you can look at the when card is upright or reversed or tilted which add nuances to the reading. I’m reading this week with The Corporate Tarot Deck created by Melanie McCarthy and Art by Paul Gentille You can find all about the deck at: http://www.corporatetarot.org/ I met Melanie at Readers Studio this year and was fascinated by her deck. Melanie’s intention for The Corporate Tarot is to help us tap into the Universal Consciousness much in the way that Meditation does through imagery and the deck can assist to bring clarity to business issues, teamwork and collaboration. She has also add cards similar to court cards, but not in a hierarchal fashion, to represent the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators. She has information on her site on the Myers-Briggs definitions and you can just type in Myers Briggs on the web and you can see what your indicator is for free. Also looking at the other indicators, it’s fun because you will recognize some in your family and friends. By the way I’ll start the game, I’m a INFP Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiver. You could consciously pick your own Myers Briggs indicator in a group and choose cards to see how the game might play out. So let’s give this a go and see what ideas and messages come out for our week!

I’m reading this week with exquisite and unique Pentimento Tarot, http://www.gaiansoul.com/shop/pentimento-tarot/ by Joanna Powell Colbert. Joanna uses the medium of beeswax and collage which creates an effect of seeing layers of tarot lineage partially obscured by time and beeswax, showing through the visions of the present. Joanna chose three decks to “live in the layers” of the Pentimento Tarot: the 15th century Visconti-Sforza deck, the 18th century Marseilles deck, and the 1909 edition of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck along with vintage photographs.


This is a deck comprised of the Majors in the Tarot deck and Joanna suggests can be used for meditation, one card pull for the Tone of a reading while using a full deck, a three card reading, journaling, and a Visio Divina, a Sacred Reading, which she describes in the companion book. For our reading this week, I will use a three card reading, The Opportunity, The Challenge, and The Manifestation. I know you will fall in love with this deck and energy as I have! We start the weekend with the Moon leaving Leo and moving into Virgo Saturday afternoon. This time is perfect for catching up on details, planning and attending to any service related projects along with giving attention to our diet as Virgo rules our digestion. We are also in the waxing Moon phase so the energy is ripe for things to grow and increase as we tend our garden.

This week I’m reading with the magical and luminous Alice Tarot from Baba Studios, written and designed by Karen Mahony and Illustrated and designed by Alex Ukolov. This deck has some of the symbols and meanings from the traditional Rider Waite tarot but takes the enchantment from the story and we go down the rabbit hole with Alice and read from a more intuitive perspective. That that’s the thing with decks that are less traditional, they encourage us to exercise our intuition, see, hear and feel what messages are coming through uniquely for us. Also there's a new movie coming out, Alice Through the Looking Glass, directed by Tim Burton at the end of May that I am excited about!
